Yolanda Lee Conyers, VP of World Wide Human Resources and Chief Diversity Officer, Lenovo It’s that time of year again: we’ve got our class assignments, school supply lists, and shopping excursions for those all-important back-to-school fashions. Whether the kids are starting kindergarten or finishing high school, the start of a new school year is an exciting, yet stressful, time for parents and kids. For successful working moms, the stress can be compounded by the competing responsibilities of work and home. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be so bad. Here are some tips that I’ve learned to make…

3 Lessons for High School STEM Students

Last week, I spent the morning with about 30 high school students in Raleigh, NC who are studying to become engineers. As part of a partnership between Lenovo and the National Academies Foundation (NAF), I was on hand to deliver Lenovo ThinkPad laptops and YOGA 2 tablets to young people from under-represented populations in urban and rural areas of the U.S. As part of the Lenovo Scholar Network these students are learning how to build apps, in addition to using MIT App Inventor software. They work in teams during the school year, and compete against other teams in local and national…

One Year Anniversary of The Lenovo Way

It has been exactly one year since we began our journey as authors. And when two women tell the story about the #1 PC company in the world, it creates interesting conversations and responses. One response we have been pleased and surprised to see is how The Lenovo Way: Managing a Diverse Global Company for Optimal Performance is being well received by audiences across the globe. In fact, we recently published a version in Chinese; and last month we learned our story would be available in Indonesian and Russian later this year. Wow! When we have an opportunity to share…

Taking care of myself means taking time away from work — and not feeling guilty about it.

I just returned from an incredible two-week vacation where I was totally ‘checked out’ from work.  It took a lot to completely unplug and I must admit it has taken a while not to feel a twinge of guilt about it.  However, early in my career I learned the hard way that if I don’t take care of myself — then my body will make me pay for it. Too many women in the workforce, especially leaders with company wide responsibilities, find it difficult to completely step away from work.  When we don’t take a much needed break, we can…

The Lenovo Way is Now Available in Mandarin

When we published The Lenovo Way in August of last year, we had no idea how well it would be received. The story of how people from very different backgrounds can work together -- and win together -- by overcoming challenges and embracing differences carries a universal message. Today, we are pleased to announce that this message will be available in Mandarin. We launch Mandarin version of the book in Beijing, China on May 29. Through the Mandarin translation we are both very humbled and pleased to make our message accessible to more than 1 billion people in China. Find…

Five Things Not to Do When Working in China

Five Things Not to Do When Working in China From The Lenovo Way, co-authored by Yolanda Conyers, vice president, global human resources operations and chief diversity officer, Lenovo My passion for diversity started at a very young age; it was in my blood. I knew what it felt like to be treated as an outsider, and I wanted nothing more than to create a climate in which everyone had a voice and a place at the table. So when the opportunity to lead the culture integration of Lenovo through the acquisition of the IBM PC division and its iconic ThinkPad…
